How I Got the Name
I get asked a lot how I came up with Whippoorwill Photography - and I love the name just as much as I love how random the story is, so I thought I'd share it with you!
I was mowing the lawn at my parents house during my first year of photography (at 20 years old), and I had the song Deeper Than the Holler by Randy Travis stuck in my head. I had no idea what the last word in the chorus was, so I looked it up later that afternoon. That word was whippoorwill - a kind of bird that lives along eastern North America and got its name from the sound its song makes. After that, it just stuck with me.
My love is deeper than the holler
Stronger than the river
Higher than the pine trees growin' tall upon the hill
My love is purer than the snowflakes,
That fall in late December
And honest as a Robin on a springtime window sill
And longer than the song of a whippoorwill
